CAT Logical Questions- Directions for next 3 CAT Logical Questions: Answer the CAT Logical Questions based on the following information.
The holy town of Mantralayam has 3 temples. The magical powers of each temple doubles the flowers a devotee carries every time he/she passes under the doorway at the entrance of the temple. He/she then offers some flowers to the idol and exits the temple with the remaining flowers.
1. Chari carries X flowers to temple 1. At each of the 3 temples, he places an identical number of flowers (Y). He exits the temple 3 without a single flower. X was most probably:
a. 2 flowers
b. 5 flowers
c. 6 flowers
d. 7 flowers
2. In the questions 1, Y was most probably:
a. 8 flowers
b. 5 flowers
c. 6 flowers
d. 7 flowers
3. Rekha took 8 flowers and offered 4 flowers each to the first 2 temples. She visited temple 1 and 2 in sequence. How many flowers does she have by the time she faces the third idol in the third temple?
a. 40 flowers
b. 36 flowers
c. 52 flowers
d. 56 flowers

(1)and (2)first he carries 7 flowers
it becomes 14 then keeps 8
remaining 6 becomes 12
again keeps 8 then remaining 4 it becomes 8
he keeps it in c and comes back
so total flowers at starting is 7
and at each temple its 8
and (3) answer is 40
8*2=16 just after entering 1st temple
16-4=12 after donatin flowers in temple 1
12*2=24 just after enterin temple 2
24-4=20 after donating flowers at temple 2
20*2=40 just after entering temple 1

Explanation:-
Say she has x before enter the first temple.
So
before entry after entry places
x 2x y —-1st temple
2x-y 2(2x-y) y—-2nd temple
4x-3y 2(4x-3y) y—-3rd temple
So as per question 2(4x-3y)-y=0
or 8x=7y
or y=8x/7
so x must be multiple of 7.
So Pobale answer for question 1 is 7.–(D)
and y should be multiple of 8.
so answer of question 2 is 8.—-(A)
For question 3:-
before entry after entry places
8 16 4 —-1st temple
12 24 4 —-2nd temple
20 40
So the answer is 40 thats (A)

For questions 1 and 2: Check the choices for the questions 1 and 2. We get X = 7 and Y = 8.

Rekha entered with 8 flowers in the first temple. When she exit from 1st temple then she had 12 flowers. Similarly for 2nd temple. So when she entered in the 3rd temple, then she had 40 flowers.

Can the equation be as follows for the first and second questions?
3x+3=3Y
(3 is added as there are 3 attempts)
so that when options are checked with
3(7)+3=3(8)
Hence, X=7, Y=8
