Interview Gyan of the day

Creating the Right Impact

You probably won’t be surprised when I tell you that interviewers are looking to recruit motivated and enthusiastic people. But you may be surprised to discover that most of your interpersonal impact comes across not in what you say, but how you say it.

Research claims that up to 55 per cent of our communication effectiveness is determined by our body language, comprising of our gestures, movements, and facial expressions.

A lot of candidates talk about trying to ‘be themselves’ during interviews. These candidates say that they tend to warm up only when they get to know people better and that they feel fake in having to ‘act up’ with interviewers. But remember that interviews are a game of sorts: Interviewers want to hire candidates who are energetic and enthusiastic from the moment they meet, so you need to focus on performing as a dynamic and passionate person – even if that isn’t how you normally like to behave until you know people better.

Today’s Puzzle

How many times a day do the hour and minute hands on a clock line up exactly with each other?

    I have a confusion with the question….
    Does it mean that how many times in a day the two hands of the clock will overlap on each other? OR
    Does it mean that how many times in a day the two hands of the clock will be in a line? OR
    Does it mean the combination of both the above questions?

  2. rushden Says:

    24 times thats easy…. the hands are together once every hour…
    12 am
    5 past 1
    around 10 past 2
    15 past 3 and so on

  3. admin Says:

    @Shweta

    Your first option is the actual question.

    How many times will it overlap?

  4. Shweta Subhedar Says:

    Well in that case, rushden is correct.

    both the hands will overlap each other 24 times in a day..
    once every hour….
    and as there are 24 hours in a day, so 24 times is the answer.

  5. somit jain Says:

    if its abut overlapping den answer is 60 coz in a 24 hour they will overlap each other in every minute

  6. somit jain Says:

    sory its second

  7. admin Says:

    @Somit Jain

    Can you explain how an hour and a minute hand can overlap in every minute?

  8. admin Says:

    @Somit

    I think you did not read the question carefully.There is nothing about second hand in that question.

  9. rushden Says:

    right you are miss subhedar

  10. anand Says:

    24 times in a day

  11. ashok Says:

  14. admin Says:

    @Ashok

  15. neha Says:

    i guess the answer should be 18..

  16. admin Says:

    @Neha

    Can you explain?

  17. navya Says:

    24 times

  18. somit jain Says:

    admin sory…..its 24 i all messed up yaar…..plz tell me how i can delete my past posts

  19. admin Says:

    @Somit

    Don’t be sorry.Its ok.I will delete you past post if you want.No need to worry about that.By the way are you sure about the answer or do you wanna think once again?

  20. Cool_Rajiv Says:

    the answer is 22 and I am very sure about that.

  21. Cool_Rajiv Says:

    it starts at 12 mid night.

    AM

    12:00
    1:05
    2:11
    3:16
    4:22
    5:27
    6:33
    7:38
    8:44
    9:49
    10:55

    PM

    12:00
    1:05
    2:11
    3:16
    4:22
    5:27
    6:33
    7:38
    8:44
    9:49
    10:55

    => 22

    Next will be 12 mid night of next day so not counted.

  22. rushden Says:

    @ COOL RAJIV u say 10 55 ??? its actually 10 50 and then 11 55 … you missed the 2 11 pm and am ones so add 2 to your answers and its 24

  23. rushden Says:

    ooops NOT… 22 is right my bad! 22 is the correct answer

  24. karthik Says:

    ans is 22 …because between 11 and 12 ,it meets only once…ie exactly at 12…

  25. neha Says:

    the hour hand moves 1/2 degree in a min while the minute hand moves 5 degree. so in 1 minute d minute hand covers 4.5 degrees more. so it will cover 360 degrees in 80 minutes.so they will come together 24*60/80=18 times

  26. indu Says:

    60*60*24

  27. admin Says:

    @indu

    Can you explain your answer?

  28. admin Says:

    Cool_Rajiv is correct and his explanation is also good. The only thing is he is not precise with the time of coincidence of both the hands. By unitary method we can easily say it meets every one hour and 60n/11 min. Obtain the values by putting n = 0 to 11, and you will find that from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 (please note that 23:59:60 is equivalent to 24:00:00 or 00:00:00), the hands overlap 22 times.

  29. Balakumaran Says:

    We can use the rather beautiful relative speed concept to better understand and solve all “clock” problems.
    Minute hand moves at a speed of 60 minutes per hour and Hour hand at the speed of 5 minuts per hour.So,the relative speed of the minute hand w.r.t hour hand is 55 minutes per hour.
    So,assuming that the hour hand stays where it is for the minute hand to come back and touch this hour hand it will take
    ‘X’ minutes where X is given by (55/60)*x=60
    i.e
    (55/60)*x=60 (Explanation:For one hour or 60 minutes the relative movement is 55 minutes,so for how many hours/minutes there will a relative movement of 60 minutes so that both hands can meet)
    Solving for X,we can get 720/11 minutes.
    We know that a day contains 24*60 minutes.
    So,(24*60)/(720/11) will give the number of times both hands will meet,which will be “22″ times.

  30. SMITA Says:

    the method of relative speed is really wonderful but for calculating 22 minute and x second , easier way can also be used :-

    55 min / hr is the relative speed …
    for one overlapping we need to cover 60 minutes or 1 hour wrt hour’s hand … so time taken for one overlap is 60/55=12/11
    number of hours in a day= 24
    so number of overlaps= 24/(12/11)=22 (simplify 24 by 12 which is 2 and after multiplying by 11, it is 22)

  31. Anas Says:

    what is there to panic so much on trifle ques.
    ans is obviously 24.

  32. Murali Says:

    the anwer is 24
