Quantitative Ability Questions.

1. Four cups of milk are to be poured into a 2-cup bottle and a 4-cup bottle. If each bottle is to be filled to the same fraction of its capacity, how many cups of milk should be poured into the 4-cup bottle?
a) 2/3

b)7/3

c) 5/2

d) 8/3

e) 3

2. Distance between A and B is 72 km. Two men started walking from A and B at the same time towards each other. The person who started from A travelled uniformly with average speed 4 kmph. While the other man travelled with varying speeds as follows: In first hour his speed was 2 kmph, in the second hour it was 2.5 kmph, in the third hour it was 3 kmph, and so on. When will they meet each other?

    1.d

i did by putting the answesrs
from the answers the distribution in 4 cup bottle and 2 cup bottle is (2/3,10/3),(5/3,7/3),(3/2,5/2),(8/3,4/3)& (1,3)
So the equvalent fractions in 4 cup bottle and 2 cup bottle is (2/12,10/6),(5/12,7/12),(3/8,5/2),(8/12,4/6)& (1/4,3/2)

only d satifies teh given situation….

    2.d
The distance travelled by them together is 6,6.5, 7,7.5 and so on..

so we get an AP with cd =0.5 , sume=72 and first term as 6.

We putting formal we get the time take is 9 hours.

So teh distance travelled by A is 4*9 =36 km ..

    1. ans (d)
suppose 1 cup is 1 litre. then we have 4 litres of total milk and two bottles of 2 ltr and 4 ltr capacity. Now, Let the bottles filled are x and y ltr respectively. Then we have,
    x + y = 4 …………….(i)
Now the fraction of capacity should be equal, then we have
    4/y = 2/x ………(ii)
By solving these two equations we get y = 8/3.
